I surprised with a tool box and sushi for his birthday. With Joel's job, he is acrewing more tools on a daily basis it seems like. He has been oggling boxes forever and I keep saying no. He looks for the high end "I wants" and I look at the utilitarian side of things. For his b-day I was near a Sears and went looking to see what I could find. I think I did a pretty good job finding him a decent box. I'm sure he'll expand later.
I have looked for and wished/hoped for a Bosch for years. I haven't really complained but I've done most things by hand--no not even a hand mixer. I would make cookies, breads, for mothers day.
Trip to Cali. Visited with Kelly Strand, an old mission companion. Traded in the Blazer and purchased a newer car. K, this was the craziest event. Joel and I have been looking at different vehicles for almost a year now trying to figure out something that both of us would like. He wants a truck or an SUV. I don't want a massive vehicle but we both agree that a car wouldn't be the smart investment since it can't hold everything for the family of 4 we currently have. There would be no expansion room. Long story short, I was driving home Thursday and saw a smallish SUV that I liked. Then I started seeing them everywhere! I told Joel about it Friday. Saturday for our date we spent a few minutes looking around Vegas for places that sold this particular vehicle. We weren't finding anything in our price range.
Sunday we were at my parents house using the internet and found a bunch of the particular vehicle but found most of them were in Cali. Joel said, I'm okay going to California. I said, really? Well I do have a friend in that part of the state. I called up (Sister) Kelly Strand and asked if we could come for dinner and crash the night. It was 11 in the morning when I made the call. We called back and said come on down!
We headed home, packed up the car, the girls, our clothes, vital documents and were on the road by 1:30. Now granted with kids and stops we didn't get there till 7. It was a long drive. The whole time we just kept saying, did we really just do this? Yep! Both of us felt good about going, so we went.
That seems to be the way our lives have happened. Fast and without much hesitation once we make a decision. We did find a car. It was stressful. California interstates and roads are ridiculous! I think we made a wrong exit every time we had to get off the freeway. We made it home Monday night in time to put the kids to bed and crash ourselves. Crazy!
We have continued to say, did we really just do that? Yep! Are we satisfied with our purchase. Yep. We have still been driving and I see a vehicle and say, "What do you think about that one?" I don't like it for x, y, z reason. It is amazing that we came to a decision that both of us were okay with. CRAZY!!!
We picked strawberries and harvested our other fruits and vegetables. We made jam. Peach and Strawberry freezer jam. I didn't have the fancy containers so I just put the jam in ziplock freezer bags.
Emi is crawling. Transitioning Hailey to a twin bed not a crib any more. We are moving both girls into the same room. First trial run on cali trip went fairly well. getting them down was the hard part. but emi waking up didn't wake Hailey up. We put up a railing by Hailey's bed so she wouldn't fall out until she develops her spacial awareness. Joel was worried that she would get up all night long and not stay in her bed. We asked Her if she wanted to sleep in a big girl bed. She said, "good girl bed" and climbed right in. It was as easy as that. The hard part is that instead of playing in her crib till I come get her she wakes up and comes and wakes us up. Sometimes that's at 5 a.m. Not fun. But I can't complain much with two little girls that go to bed between 7-8 to be up early. Who needs sleep.
Canning beets and harvesting carrots, green beans and peas! Joel planted beets this spring. He told me though that he only enjoys pickled beets so I learned how to do that! We'll see in a couple weeks how they taste.
Hailey's hair is a mess, so we got it cut. Shannon cuts hair and since Hailey is comfortable with her, she made it happen. Bella had to show her it was okay and how it was done, then it was Haileys turn.

That was a tiring ordeal. I think I'll take a nap now. Nu night Bella.
