Washington Trip for dentistry and berries.

With Abby in Vegas to watch the girls I made it to Washington.  My flight to Bellingham was delay a few hours so I spent lots of time in the airports doing a lot of waiting.  Flying into Sequim was a nice flight.  There is a paved runway but if you miss the runway you take some corn with you.  Its green and was about 55 degrees.  So much nicer than the 100's in Vegas.  We headed to the office quickly and got my dental work done.  I had a few fillings that had failed and I didn't want to trust the Vegas dentist.

I spent a lot of time on the porch.  It was so nice out and I hated being inside so much.  This is only part of the front yard.  The orchard is off to the left.  Sadie has a Labrador friend named Bristle that would come over and play, mostly steal her tennis balls.  Once Bristle realized that if she didn't steal the balls I would throw them for both of them, she was over bright and early in the morning.  Sadie usually sprints to get her ball and saunters back, but with Bristle there she runs out and runs back.  Bristle was consistent and steady running out and running back.  They were both tired pups after a good run.  Usually Sadie isn't super hungry and leaves half of her food in the bowl most of the day.  When she's running against Bristle, she works up quite the appetite.

Saturday we spent the Morning at Graysmarsh farms picking berries.  The prices were higher than last year because it's been a rough year on the west coast for produce. We picked blackberries and blueberries.  We ate quite a few as well while picking.  The goal was to pick the berries, put the in the fridge, take a carry on on the plane with the fruit and can it all when we got home.  I checked TSA and I could take berries with me as long as they were solid and not in a liquid state.

Thing would have worked out nicely except our Monday flight was delayed and rescheduled for Tuesday.  Getting that notice Monday morning, I looked at the blackberries and knew that they weren't going to make it on the plane because they were already hitting semi liquid state.  We stopped at the store and picked up jars.  We had to jam the blackberries.  The fun part was going to be trying to figure out how to get the jars home.  40 pounds of blackberries made roughly 20 pints of jam.  We used the Pomona pectin as usual to keep the sugar slow and the berry flavor high.  Then since we didn't leave on Tuesday till later in the afternoon, we went back to Greysmarsh and picked more blackberries.  This time we picked them right into the ziplock bags so they wouldn't get squished transferring them.  We also picked 2 pounds of raspberries, but those didn't last long.  Fresh raspberries... mmm mmm mmm!   I left 4-5 jars jars with Dad and we managed to pack the rest into Mom's checked back and shrink wrapped them so they wouldn't crack and hoped for the best.  Everything made it back without cracking.  I had a carry on with 45 pounds of berries.

With everything that was happening that weekend, we ate out a lot.  I missed some of my home cooking, so I treated my parents to chicken noodle soup.  I made enough to have left overs for dad.  Mom was flying back to Vegas for a few days so she could come to the ultrasound and gender reveal of the baby.
